We’re seeking an experienced Geophysicist to join our Buzzard Development team in Uxbridge.
Reporting to the Manager – Geophysics Buzzard , you will be primarily responsible for delivering against this team’s work plan and charged with identifying, evaluating and planning targets for infill drilling. You will also focus on horizon and fault interpretation leading to geomodel building as well as quantitative interpretation of 3D and 4D data. Located in Uxbridge you will support the asset with high-class technical infill drilling evaluations, whilst also making recommendations for the acquisition of geophysical data, including reprocessing and QI projects. The appointee will work within a multi-disciplinary team including Geology, Reservoir Engineering, Production Engineering, Petrophysics and Operations to share knowledge and technical skills.
We actively encourage the sharing of technical expertise around the geoscience community, so you will be encouraged to disseminate your technical expertise to others in the global geoscience world. This may be specific technical skills or basin/regional knowledge.
Successful candidates will have a track record of supporting Development activity . You will play a key role in delivering best-in-class results for the Developments team through:
Working closely with geologists and reservoir engineers as well as drilling and completions staff, to mature infill drilling targets in the field using 3D and 4D data
The provision of operational support for drilling activity and evaluating well results in the context of wider field understanding
Detailed interpretation work involving the analyses and tie of existing well control to 3D seismic; building seismic velocity models to convert time horizons to depth; making appropriate use of seismic attributes to characterise well targets (and risks)
Providing geophysical input to geomodels, in the form of 3D and 4D interpretation and working with geology & reservoir engineering to create an integrated subsurface model for use in forecasting and project evaluations
Recommending and planning for the acquisition and/or purchase of geophysical data
The opportunity to evaluate new business development opportunities through data room visits and meetings with peers
Presenting recommendations to CNOOC Peer Review Team, Senior Management and Partners
Provision of mentorship to more junior earth scientists
Development and dissemination of technical expertise within the CNOOC International Geophysical Community
Be familiar with advances in Geophysics and work with the Geophysical community in CNOOC to promote leading edge Geophysics throughout our technical teams
Who are we looking for?
We are particularly interested in you if you have the following skills and knowledge:
Significant experience as a Geophysicist in the oil and gas industry, preferably with an operating company. North Sea experience is also advantageous.
Skills in integrating diverse geological, reservoir engineering and geophysical data eg well, structural, geochemical, biostratigraphic, seismic, well test
Particular expertise in one or more topics such as seismic attribute analysis, seismic processing, AVO
The capability to create target assessments, and to make technically and economically valid recommendations
Ability to deliver fit-for-purpose evaluations and recommendations under time constraints, from scoping (hours/days) to detailed analyses (weeks/months)
Proficient in the use of industry standard applications (Petrel, Hampson Russell, RokDoc)
