Position Summary

The Exploration team at Senex Energy are currently recruiting two Geophysicist positions. In your application, please specify which of the roles you are interested in applying for.

Geophysicist (Exploration Assets Team) – 12 Month Fixed Term Contract

The Geophysicist ensures the delivery of prospects for drilling across all Cooper-Eromanga Basin oil and gas permits. Under supervision, the Geophysicist interprets and evaluates seismic and other data that ensures the efficient generation and maturation of leads to the prospects stage.

The Geophysicist carries out primarily prospect focussed well and seismic interpretation and mapping and also works with all staff to ensure the appropriate information and models are provided for play mapping and resource and risk assessments of exploration leads and prospects. A close working relationship with the regional evaluation team is necessary to ensure regional petroleum system models are incorporated into the assessment of all identified leads and prospects.

In addition, it is expected that the Geophysicist will be involved in other aspects of exploration and development including designing, planning and implementing seismic programs and providing technical, geophysical advice.

Geophysicist (Regional Studies Team) – Permanent Role

Reporting to the Manager, Regional Studies, the Geophysicist provides for regional play based evaluation of all Cooper-Eromanga Basin oil and gas permits and new venture opportunities. The Geophysicist generates, interprets and evaluates seismic data and contributes to the ultimate resource assessment and evaluation of all conventional and unconventional plays. The Geophysicist carries out regional well and seismic interpretation and mapping and works with all staff to ensure the appropriate information and models are provided for play mapping and prospective resource assessments. Regional projects will focus on assisting the exploration project teams to high-grade Senex’s current exploration portfolio through the development of regional petroleum systems models that link current tenement exploration efforts, while also identifying areas for future growth in order to assist the company achieve corporate volume and value growth targets.

The position will also assist the asset teams in the generation of new opportunities and prospect maturation through the analysis of all geophysical data, both in exploration areas and within existing oil and gas fields. In addition, it is expected that the Geophysicist will be involved in all aspects of exploration and development including designing, planning and implementing seismic programs and providing technical, geophysical advice.

Key Responsibilities Include:

Geophysicist (Exploration Assets Team)

  • Through the interpretation of seismic and geological data, identify leads and mature prospects to drillable status through the Senex Energy exploration department internal peer review process, including coordination of input from reservoir engineers and drillers
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and conduct all work to a defined schedule and to a technical excellent standard consistent with Senex’s exploration methodology
  • Integrate geophysical and geological interpretations into regional and local depositional, structural and petroleum systems models as well as play mapping, risk analysis and volumetric assessments
  • Provide operational geophysical coverage for seismic programs as required
  • Presentations to senior management and JV partners as required
  • Assist manager to prepare work plans and budgets

Geophysicist (Regional Studies Team)

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to undertake regional studies and Play Fairway analyses and conduct all work to a defined schedule and to a technical excellent standard consistent with Senex’s exploration methodology
  • Where necessary, identification of leads and maturation of prospects to drillable status through the internal peer review process, including coordination of input from geologists, reservoir engineers and drillers
  • Integrate geophysical interpretations into regional structural models, petroleum systems models, CRS mapping, risk analysis and volumetric assessments

Geophysicist (Both Positions)

  • Interpretation of all available seismic data in project areas defined by the Manager
  • Generation of time, velocity and depth maps for multiple horizons at both local and regional scale utilising regional and local 2D and 3D seismic datasets
  • Use all available seismic technology to extract maximum stratigraphic and structural information from both 2D and 3D seismic datasets
  • Provide recommendations for reprocessing of existing data including QC of deliverables
  • Provide recommendations for additional seismic surveys, including check-shot’s and VSP’s, and provision of input to the planning, acquisition and processing as required
  • Provide operational geophysical coverage for seismic programs as required
  • Applying Workplace Health and Safety standards to all business activity and adhere to relevant policies
  • Complying with all Senex Energy policies and government regulations including but not limited to WHSE, aboriginal heritage and land ownership legislation, HR/ER/IR, Finance
  • Other duties as assigned by the Manager or EGM Exploration

Experience

The incumbent will require the following qualifications and experience:

Geophysicist (Exploration Assets Team)

  • Strong Petrel seismic interpretation user (or equivalent) including latest seismic attribute analysis techniques (AVO, spectral decomp etc) and seismic data management
  • Strong core skills in sequence stratigraphy, and structural geology with the ability to contribute to the formation of gross depositional environment maps and reservoir models
  • Good understanding of probabilistic volumetric analysis and risk assessments
  • Proven track record in developing models and integration into prospect generation work flows
  • Proven 2D and 3D seismic interpretive experience
  • Knowledge of Cooper Basin petroleum geology (or an equivalent onshore basin)

Geophysicist (Regional Studies Team)

  • High level Petrel seismic interpretation user (or equivalent) including latest seismic attribute analysis techniques (AVO, spectral decomp etc) and seismic data management
  • Strong core skills in sequence stratigraphy, and structural geology with the ability to contribute to the formation of gross depositional environment maps and regional structural models
  • Strong understanding of probabilistic volumetric analysis
  • 2D and 3D seismic interpretive experience
  • Broad knowledge of Cooper Basin petroleum geology

Geophysicist (Both Positions)

  • Geophysics or related geophysical tertiary qualifications
  • 5+ years’ experience working in Oil & Gas industry
  • Demonstrated analytical, administrative, evaluation and reporting skills
