This position is located in Denver, Colorado. The Geology Manager is responsible for the operation and supervision of the geology department and provides overall geological and geophysical leadership in researching and evaluating existing assets and new venture opportunities.
Serve as leader of the geological team which includes disciplines such as exploration geology, development geology, geophysics and petrophysics.
Asset evaluation, company evaluation, regional studies, farm-in opportunities, new ventures and prospect evaluations, economic and risk assessments.
Use the five components that make up the Petroleum System (Source, Migration, Reservoir, Trap, and Seal), provide appropriate maps, cross-sections, well log correlations and petrophysical analyses, structural/stratigraphic framework analyses, biostratigraphic, litho-stratigraphic, geochemical, seal and pressure data to evaluate development and new venture opportunities.
Function as a technical geoscience leader by advising colleagues and management on new technologies and trends in geoscience. Will also serve as a consultant in projects in other work groups or locations.
Represent the Company to outside organizations including financial institutions, technical societies, government and academic organizations.
Create, manage, and operate an approved budget appropriate for the geoscience program.
Other duties as assigned.
Ability to manage a diverse team of geoscientists and geoscience technicians.
Must have recent advanced experience in the Permian Basin.
Expertise in oil and gas resource plays to determine their relative risk, reward, and potential.
Advanced knowledge of development geology of unconventional resources, planning of horizontal development, and the drilling/geosteering of horizontal wells.
Advanced knowledge of seismic interpretation and workstation use.
Advanced knowledge of geological concepts, geophysics, and mapping techniques.
Ability to plan/oversee the acquisition, processing and interpretation of 2D and 3D seismic.
Understanding of land, leasing, government / partner / regulatory issues and business negotiations.
Understanding of reservoir engineering concepts and the drilling/completion of horizontal wells.
Advanced ability to analyze and develop creative solutions to complex problems.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
MS in Geology / Geophysics
Minimum 15 years of experience in exploration and development geology, or equivalent of education and experience with at least 5 years of management experience or equivalent of education and experience.
