Development and Production USA (DPUSA) is responsible for Statoil’s portfolio of producing assets and planned field developments across the US. Technological innovation, rigorous safety standards, and environmental awareness drive our operations in the US and have helped Statoil to build a portfolio of onshore, offshore and exploration assets in some of the industry’s most exciting energy resource areas. Subsurface GGP within DPUSA ON is seeking an entry level development geologist to work as part of a multi-disciplinary subsurface organization composed of geologists, geophysicists, petrophysicists and geo-data analysts.
Together with reservoir engineering, Subsurface GGP represents a core competency and an exciting center for career growth with an opportunity to shape the future of Statoil’s US Onshore “unconventional” reservoir portfolio.
DPUSA ON is actively involved in development and growth opportunities with a focus on active operations, non-operated asset evaluations, new venture assessments, and regional analysis.
Primary responsibilities are in support of ongoing efforts within Statoil’s US onshore assets including the Williston Basin (Bakken), South Texas Basin (Eagle Ford), and Appalachian Basin (Marcellus).
Petroleum Geologist with 1 to 3 years of experience in at least one of Statoil’s active onshore asset areas
Primary focus on geology operations and geosteering oversight of horizontal wells
Application of geologic principles to subsurface well log analysis and stratigraphic correlation together with structural and isopach mapping in support of asset based projects
Functional responsibility for well placement and planning, creation of pre-drill and post-drill reports and analysis, participation in target zone assessments, and fulfillment of in-house technical well evaluations and field related monitoring
Generate well plans consisting of proposed well pad and lateral locations for field operations; coordinate with key stakeholders for timely delivery
Correlate well logs and interpret some seismic data to aid construction of a subsurface geologic framework.
Monitor geologic related activities during drilling operations including monitoring the geosteering of lateral horizontal wells
Incorporate structural restorations from the geosteering analysis into the geologic model for drilled wells
Support and help maintain the geologic model using all available well data and other supporting geologic information
Monitor and insure compliance with data acquisition strategy for all operated wells
Identify and clarify geologic drilling hazards and clearly communicate concerns to Drilling Engineers and field personal as appropriate
Assess the reservoir targeting strategy in conjunction with the Reservoir, Production, and Drilling Engineers
Master's degree in Geology required
Entry level; 1 to 3 years of experience required,
Strong technical skills, ability to work well with others and a desire to make a difference
Proficiency with use and maintenance of geological databases and familiarity with the relevant software such as IHS Kingdom preferred
Ability to effectively use well and production databases a plus
Ability to live by "I am safety" expectations
Enthusiastic, self-motivated, creative, and results-oriented
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Willingness to work under pressure and meet deadlines
Desire and ability to work effectively in a collaborative multi-disciplinary environment
Commitment and adherence to Statoil ethics, HSE standards and use of best practices
