This position is for an Operations Geologist in Hess’s Planning & Design Northeast team. The team is a multi-disciplinary team responsible for the development of the Bakken Asset from planning to implementation and in the decision making process to drill the highest productivity wells. This position reports directly to the Manager, Planning & Design Northeast.
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Interpreting and evaluating subsurface geologic/geophysical data for subsurface maps and cross section construction.
Updates structural and isopach interpretations from review of MWD and open hole log data.
once a month you will have to prepare presentations, and testify to the North Dakota Industrial Commission to obtain well spacing, and field designations.
Supervise and train consultant geosteers (if needed) and wellsite geologist in-order to allow for optimal geosteering.
Participates/contributes on custom frac processes, as well as look backs.
Provides target strategy and geosteering support for multiple drilling rigs from landing to TD of lateral. This requires being on-call during (this may include calls in the middle of the night) all drilling operations.
Maintains appropriate digital databases (Petrovault, Petrel Studio, Minot working folders.)
Ensure NDIC and Partner Communications are fulfilled for missing geology data.
Prepare Data Packages in the various stages of the well (curve, lateral, TD) which includes tops and targets (also used in the permitting process), structure map, cross section, pre-lateral preview and End of well report.
Stratigraphy and structural development as they relate to infill development. 3-5 yrs experience needed
Experience drilling and geo-steering horizontal wells in high activity environments onshore US with responsibility for 3+ rigs. 3-5 yrs experience needed
Landing and steering of horizontal wells and ability to navigate structurally complex/faulted areas with successful well bore placement in stratigraphic intervals 7000’. 5 yrs experience needed.
Well log correlation and petrophysical analysis to define drilling targets. Update operational objectives from evaluation of well log, seismic and engineering data. 3-5yrs
5 + years of previous experience in the oil and gas industry. Preferably with an onshore-geosteering background.
