We’re seeking a Geologist to join our New Ventures team in Uxbridge.
As a member of our New Ventures team in the Europe & Africa Region, you will have the opportunity to make a real contribution to growing our exploration portfolio. CNOOC International is committed to growing our reserves and production of both oil and gas for the long term. We have an active global growth strategy, with the New Ventures team playing a key role.
We are looking for you to generate plays and prospects and work in a cross discipline team to evaluate and recommend acreage, assets, farm-ins, acquisitions and licences. You will work across asset teams and share knowledge and technical expertise with colleagues in other regions, particularly those focusing in the New Ventures arena.
The Geologist will provide leadership for technical work on specific projects in the West Africa region, and potentially in other basins and geographies. This will require working closely with geophysics colleagues, as well as integrating data from multiple sources and contributors. Where gaps exist you will need to present a business case for data purchases to support the appropriate quality regional assessments, play trend analysis and prospect evaluation. The ultimate aim is to provide access to likely drill worthy prospects.
You will present your work in a variety of scenarios including to Technical Assurance, Peer Reviews and taking your recommendations to senior management for support and approvals.
We actively encourage the sharing of technical expertise around the geoscience community, so you will be encouraged to disseminate your technical expertise to others in the global geoscience world. This may be specific technical skills or basin/regional knowledge.
There is likely to be the opportunity to travel as part of this role, sometimes at short notice.
Reporting to the Manager, New Ventures you will play an important role in delivering results for Global Exploration by:
Collaborating with Geophysicists to integrate significant quantities of varied data
Carrying out analysis to identify and work up potential drill worthy prospects;
Via proficiency in seismic interpretation of 2D and 3D volumes
Undertaking Geox assessments of prospects
Assessing prospect resource and risk, working with the Technical Assurance team
Providing input to petroleum data systems purchases to support evaluation work
Fostering a collaborative culture across a diverse group of people to achieve key results
Who are we looking for?
Successful candidates will have a track record of finding hydro-carbons and have previously worked in a New Venture environment. We are particularly interested in you if you have the following skills and knowledge:
A higher degree (Ph.D., M.Sc. or equivalent) in a geoscience discipline
Experience of diverse basins and petroleum systems
Expertise in working regional evaluations, play fairway mapping and high-grading of basins, along with expertise in integrating geological and geophysical data
Demonstrable ability to generate, rank and recommend exploration prospects and leads; creating basin-scale and prospect-scale assessments in a timely manner
Proven experience of working with a variety of structural and stratigraphic play types; it would be particularly valuable to have experience of this in deep water environments
Broad experience of in clastics and carbonates is essential along with a good knowledge of petrophysics
A strong influencing ability and a high degree of flexibility in your working style to adapt to changing operational and business environments and priorities
The ability to present ideas and communicate effectively face to face and across various technology platforms
Proficiency in tools such as UNIX/LINUM applications is essential
It would be advantageous if you had specialist knowledge of structural restoration or carbonate geology or similar, allowing you to take on an SME role
