Overview / Responsibilities
Wood is currently seeking a Geologist to join our team in Blue Bell, PA. Candidates should have basic orientation, training and experience in the nature of the consulting business, i.e., how to be a consultant, how to write proposals, reports, client correspondence and internal documents, and how to gain familiarity with the standard procedures and practices associated with their discipline. Typical project assignments include collecting or compiling data, either in the field or from published and unpublished materials, entering data into and extracting data from standard computer programs, and researching the more complex regulatory or technical requirements. Incumbent may be required to travel to field assignments. All work performed by the incumbent will be under the supervision of the project manager or senior staff member. Key Responsibilities Performs increasingly complex field sampling observations and data collection assignments under limited supervision of more experienced field personnelCompiles information from reports and published documents; Evaluates and/or analyzes the compiled information following standard methods or specific instructionsReviews client documentation and/or assesses existing sitePerforms increasingly complex, non-routine calculations; May input data into and/or run advanced computer programs under supervisionRecognizes and identifies discrepancies in results obtained in such assignments and follows up through a series of related steps or procedures; Suggests solutions on unresolved situations and/or activities to the project managerPrepares complete drafts of routine technical reports or portions of more complex documents, manuals and field reports, subject to review and approval by the project managerUnder guidance of the project manager or senior staff, represents Wood and interacts in a professional manner with client and subcontractor representatives while on field assignmentsResponsible for ensuring the Firms administrative and financial policies and procedures as well as the methods and procedures specific to his/her specific discipline are followedUnderstands and applies safety requirements in the fieldOther duties as assigned
Skills / Qualifications
The position will report to project managers on multiple projects and requires solid experience and developed expertise in:Soil and bedrock drilling techniquesMonitoring well installation in soil and bedrockSoil and groundwater samplingField survey and screening techniquesUse of field equipment and instrumentation commonly employed in environmental investigationsIn addition, the position will require well developed judgement, planning, organizational and communication (both written and verbal) skills, and will be responsible for bringing these skills to bear in leading and conducting field investigations. The position will be expected to assist project managers in development of work plans, planning and implementing field investigations, collating and interpreting field data to develop conceptual site models, conduct data analyses as directed, and prepare written reports of methodologies, findings and conclusions. Comfort using standard computer software for the office is required. A rigorous academic background in geosciences, chemistry, mathematics and statistics will be helpful. More advanced skill sets such as GIS, groundwater modeling, geochemical modeling, geophysics are desirable. Knowledge of federal RCRA, CERCLA, NPDES regulations, NJ Site Remediation Program, or PA Act 2 is desirable.Education, Experience and Skills Required3 years to 6 years, progressively greater responsibilityM.S. preferred.
