Denbury is currently recruiting for a 5+ year Geoscientist to join their corporate office in Plano, Texas.
The ideal candidate is viewed as a mid-career level Geologist and will be a developing professional with at least 5 years’ experience and is competent in basic geological techniques; receives training in more specialized approaches. Handles assignments of a moderate scope under the direction of a more senior Geologist who reviews both techniques and results. May be assigned limited supervisory duties over para-professionals. Additionally, the candidate will have considerable knowledge and experience in directional drilling. The candidate will have personal experience in Geosteering, landing wells, holding trajectory and advising on target changes. Initially, the candidate will be expected to support Denbury’s operational needs and should expect 30-40 percent of their time could be spent traveling and on location. This position will report to Exploitation group under the supervision of the Exploitation Manager.
Position responsibilities: This position will interact with multi-discipline teams of geoscientists, engineers and land personnel.
Field duties: will include wellsite Geosteering and communications with the home office of daily progress and correlations of target horizons;
Act at the liaison between the home office technical staff and additional well-site personnel such as mudlogging crews and directional crews;
Office duties: will include helping more seasoned professionals with drilling prognosis’s, permitting and well planning;
Working independently and with other disciplines to identify, map and quantify potential prospects and opportunities;
Identifying and recommending the acquisition of information that is needed to insure the interpretation and subsequent recommendations of prospects are technically sound;
Experience and Competencies Required:
Master’s degree in Geology preferred;
5+ years’ experience as a Geologist in the industry. Has a strong understanding of Geosteering and horizontal well technology, proficient in SES Geosteering software a plus;
Exhibits excellent communication skills between field and office personnel;
Fully capable of describing and acquiring team consensus on conceptual geologic models;
Has a good understanding of software packages, (Petra)for manipulating and interpreting geologic problems. May have a limited understanding of Petrel, Roxar and Kingdom;
Fully understands the concepts and inputs for reservoir characterization;
Fully capable of independently determining OOIP incorporating
Gross & net sand maps
Net pay maps
So Phi-h maps
Understands and creates digital hydrocarbon pore volume maps, facies and depositional environment maps;
Understands more advanced concepts of both open hole and cased hole logging interpretation;
Demonstrates understanding of Decision and Risk assessment and Economics;
Fully “fluent” in the understanding of how geology and reservoir engineering interact in the reserves process;
Demonstrates the understating of petroleum system concepts: Source, Seal, Trap, Reservoir quality;
Proficient with Microsoft’s Office Products such as PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook;
Must be able to function within a multidiscipline team that includes reservoir and operation engineers, geological and engineering technicians, geophysicists, and landmen;
Experienced in dealing with outside vendors such as mud loggers, and logging companies;
Must be detailed oriented and generate accurate work within established deadlines.
Work will primarily be conducted in an office environment; travel will be required to district and field offices and/or oil and gas production facilities, with the occasional need to wear personal protective equipment. Position requires the ability to frequently communicate information and to manage the possible stress of an office environment. Work may include being stationary for long periods of time, with occasional movement about the office. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds is required. Position requires constant operation and viewing of a computer screen and other office machinery.
