The Geologist will work with Senior explorers and as part of an integrated team to support exploration and appraisal activities on existing acreage while participating in regional evaluations to develop new opportunities and support acquisition evaluation efforts to achieve Company growth objectives.
The focus of the position will be to:
Identify, quantify, and document new leads and prospects on existing acreage and in new prospect areas to develop them into drillable prospects.
Work with the engineering team to optimize risking and economic assessments of new opportunities as well as appraisal planning for existing discoveries in assigned areas.
Develop and progress leasing / acreage acquisition opportunities.
Develop a strong and cooperative working relationship with region team Operations and Development staff as well as 3 rd party partners.
Communicate effectively with peers and management to progress opportunities.
The preferred candidate will be a 2-5 year Geologist with exposure to both exploration and well operations workflows. Strong communications skills are as important as technical competency.
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Subsurface geological mapping and cross section generation
Generating prospects and drill-site ideas in assigned areas of interest - an ability to think creatively is a necessity.
Working with geophysicists, reservoir engineering and land staff to assess and document variable attributes of subsurface and above ground project risks for holistic evaluations.
Maintaining detailed knowledge of competitor activity and geology in assigned focus area.
Directly supporting drilling and evaluation of existing and new prospects.
Developing positive and effective working relationships with internal operations and development asset teams and external partners.
The geologist will be required to work independently, although mentorship from senior staff and management will provided for guidance commensurate with experience.
A large dataset of digital well and seismic data will be available, and the project geologist will have primary responsibility for data management in assigned areas.
MS degree in Geology strongly preferred - BS may be considered with experience and demonstrable communication skills with a track record of completing work assignments.
A minimum of 2-5 years’ experience as an exploration or development geologist.
Concentrated knowledge of at least one producing basin in onshore North America.
Strong computer literacy a must - Prior applied work experience with Petra strongly preferred, familiarity with ArcGIS a plus.
Basic interpretation of petrophysical data is needed with a foundation understanding of geochemistry, petrography, stratigraphy and sedimentology
Basic understanding of and ability to integrate geophysical data (seismic and potential fields) into the analysis of prospects is a plus.
Familiarity with other E&P; information sources: e.g. Drilling Info/ HPDI, IHS Enerdeq
Ensure large scale data organization, integration & synthesis
Strong oral and written communication skills as well as presentation experience a must.
Ability to manage multiple tasks & areas of responsibility concurrently
Travel as needed to attend data-rooms, meet with stakeholders, and partners
