Specifies, acquires, and evaluates geological data required in the design, drilling, and operation of natural gas storage fields. Support and participate in studies of storage field integrity, and the execution of actions to restore and maintain the functional integrity of storage reservoirs and wells.
Evaluates and interprets various geologic records such as maps, drillers logs, electric logs, core data, and sand sample records for studies of existing and potential storage fields. Calculates reservoir parameters such as porosity, saturations, etc. Develops concepts and models of storage field geological environments. Constructs pertinent maps and cross sections. Determines need for additional geologic data, recommends and acquires. Updates studies with additional data;
Support reservoir engineers with interpreting reservoir flow paths and gas storage containment/inventory functional performance;
Assists with reservoir risk analysis, including reservoir boundary analysis, surveillance of third party activity, and providing support to well integrity and reservoir integrity management programs;
Acquires, and utilizes geological data in planning new storage wells. Drafts stratigraphy for the design of casing programs. Advises engineers during drilling and completion of wells. Performs wellsite geologic duties such as geo-steering, sand sample analysis, coring, and electric logging;
Responsible for overseeing onsite geo-steering consultants/ and/or mudloggers, providing guidance to them while drilling new wells;
Recommends open and cased hole logging, coring, and other geologic and reservoir data as part of the annual well construction programs. Identifies productive intervals;
Evaluates new geologic technologies. Leads pilot projects, reports results. Advises and assists Storage Teams and consultants in simulation, integrity and performance studies, and planning and design of additional facilities in both existing and potential storage fields. Develops and maintains geologic databases;
Obtains and prepares geological data for litigation. Analyzes opposing geologic expert's position, develops Company geologic position, and testifies as necessary;
Assists in preparing numerous documents and exhibits to be filed with regulatory agencies;
Maintains professional contacts with geological surveys, societies, and university departments to keep informed of the latest technological advances. Attends approved industry short courses. Stays current on various industry laws;
Interacts professionally and tactfully with contractors, inspectors, regulators and other third parties involved in Storage activities;
Other tasks as required.
Qualifications and Education
Must be able to communicate clearly and maintain a good working relationship with field personnel, management and contractors. Must be able to participate in a team environment;
Must have above average analytical skills and the use of advanced college level mathematics to utilize reservoir formulas and to understand technical geological computer applications;
Must be able to effectively execute tasks with multiple conflicting priorities;
Proficient in Microsoft Office products.
Education / Experience
Bachelors’ Degree in Geology or related science or engineering discipline required;
Advanced Degree preferred;
Prefer 3-5 years’ experience in gas production or gas storage;
Prefer geosteering experience;
Prefer knowledge of structural geological concepts;
Prefer knowledge of depositional environments, lithology, and mineralology.This position requires candidates to:
Have and maintain a valid driver's license;
Provide a driver's abstract for review;
Successfully complete a pre-employment medical screening, including drug and alcohol testing;
Be available for overtime, extended work hours, and call-outs as needed;
Travel to other company locations for temporary assignments, meetings or training which would involve some overnight stays away from home.
