The Role

Progress is currently seeking a Geologist to join the team in Calgary. Reporting to the Team Lead, Geology, the successful incumbent will interpret and evaluate geological information with a focus on, but not limited to the Montney formation.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

Develop and evaluate plays and prospects, mapping and modeling reservoirs/pay zones ensuring structural and stratigraphic relationships are illustrated, identifying drilling prospects and presenting recommendations

Coordinate the gathering/acquisition of geological data and well information, evaluating data quality and relevance, ensuring information is current and regularly updated

Provide technical input and technical packages for land tenure continuations

Monitor geologic aspects during drilling operations, communicating with well-site geologists and operations, preparing pre-drill/post-drill geological documentation and data analysis and updating correlations and interpretations as necessary

Identify opportunities for improvement to support area review activities and initiatives by researching industry best practices and emerging trends, summarizing findings and providing results and ideas for review by senior staff

Required Education, Experience and Skills

A Bachelor of Science Degree in Geology, with a minimum of 7 - 10 years of oil and gas experience in the West Canadian Sedimentary Basin, with an APEGA P.Geo designation.

Must have proven work experience within unconventional and conventional resources assessment

with a solid background in unconventional plays highlighting the individual as well as team success

Familiarity with the Montney and British Columbia stratigraphy would be preferred

Strong working knowledge and proficiency in digital mapping techniques such as Accumap, GeoScout, and Petra are required. Some proficiency in Petrel would be considered an asset

Good understanding of drilling and completion operations and technology

Exceptional organizational and time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously

Must be able to work independently or as part of a team, take initiative, and demonstrate leadership/mentorship qualities in a fast-paced environment
