The Role
PETRONAS Canada currently has a vacancy for a Geologist for the Unconventional Center of Excellence (UCOE) to join our team in Calgary. Reporting to the Manager, Geosciences, UCOE the incumbent will contribute and provide guidance on key geosciences activities and interpretations for all current Canadian and international unconventional/low permeability assets, with the addition of emerging basins. Responsibilities will also include the assisting of integrated reservoir studies with innovative strategies for evaluating prospects and potential acquisition opportunities as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
Coordinate the gathering of geological data and well information, while evaluating the quality and relevance and ensuring information is current and regularly updated for multiple unconventional basins
Deliver technical evaluations that may range from high level scoping to detailed technical development planning. This will be achieved utilizing data rooms and public data while keeping a keen eye on identifying risk and upside.
Present all findings from evaluations for benchmarking purposes
Identify & share value creation opportunities to improve current assets, by staying relevant on industry best practices and emerging trends, summarizing findings and providing results and ideas for review by management
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
Assist with unconventional innovation through geochemistry, rock mechanics, sedimentology, petrophysics and data analytics
Improve workflows through identifying bottlenecks and resolving via scripting
Required Education, Experience and Skills
Degree in Geology from an accredited post-secondary institution
P.Geo designation is required
6- 8 years of progressive experience within the oil and gas industry is preferred
Experience in multiple unconventional plays, including L48 and international exposure is preferred
Strong computer skills with demonstrated experience in Petrel, and other geological mapping software is required. Scripting would be considered an asset
Familiarity with petrophysics, geochemistry, basic seismic interpretation, and geo-mechanics principles is considered an asse t
Strong people skills and an ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment
Attention to detail, a high degree of accuracy and the ability to communicate effectively, confidentially and professionally while staying focused on timelines and deliverables.
Able to prioritize work, multi-task and adapt to changing priorities in a fast paced, high volume team environment
Open to innovation and a foundation knowledge of operations is preferred
