Come grow with us!
Aera Energy is one of California’s largest oil and gas producers, accounting for nearly 25% of the state’s production and represent almost 100 years of industry leadership and commitment to California. We are characterized by our excellent safety and environmental performance, innovative business practices, application of cutting-edge technology, dynamic company culture, and active community involvement.
Aera is looking for candidates who want to be a part of something bigger than themselves-authentic individuals who believe in having a career that makes a meaningful impact on our company and the world.
We are looking for the brightest minds and boldest spirits; people with a passion for learning, growing, and continuously improving and innovating. We want individuals who live our values each and every day and will help us power great todays and better tomorrows.
Create structure and facies maps, correlation panels and cross sections, and volumetrics (e.g., OOIP, ROIP, pore volumes) from 2D/3D reservoir models to understand and convey key reservoir characteristics for development and surveillance of producing assets.
Use well data, geologic models, and production trends to advance understanding of the geology and to aid in the creation/maintenance of new or modified geologic models of potential target areas.
Find and build fundamental data/knowledge of the geology and reservoir characteristics of the targeted reservoir; and use in the analysis of existing maps and cross sections, or to create new geologic models of the target areas.
Recommend development opportunities by integrating geologic, petrophysical and engineering data through identification of bypassed oil, underdeveloped reservoir intervals, and redrill/infill candidates
Work closely with Reservoir Engineers to develop deterministic and probabilistic economic analyses. Leverage results to define critical uncertainties and rank a portfolio of undeveloped opportunities.
Design reservoir data and information gathering plans to reduce critical uncertainties. This will sometimes include drilling wells, coring, and/or logging options.
Select well locations and provide operational support for well planning, drilling and logging operations and directional well steering.
Provide real-time geologic interpretation to drilling rig for producer and injector well completions
Evaluate open-hole and cased-hole logs for enhanced oil recovery optimization.
Support reservoir surveillance via weekly reviews of producer/injector performance, in conjunction with asset reservoir and production engineers, to identify R&R; candidates.
MS or PhD degree in Geology
Demonstrated ability to prioritize and accountability to manage multiple projects in a fast pace working environment.
Strong collaboration skills to work on an integrated team to rapidly mature undeveloped opportunities to drill ready packages.
Ability to balance reservoir characterization responsibilities with oversight of aggressive drilling activity.
Good verbal and written communication skills.
Consistently seeks to innovate and adapt to challenges and opportunities.
Critical thinker that continuously seeks improvement.
Successfully function in an inclusive culture that respects differences and the power of unique ideas
Passion for continued learning and mentoring of others.
Minimum of 6yrs of experience as geologist in oil field surveillance and development.
Development geology: identifying remaining development opportunities through identification of bypassed oil and/or underdeveloped reservoir intervals
Experience using Landmark geologic interpretation suite, intermediate to advanced 3D geologic modeling and ArcGIS.
Reservoir characterization experience including integration of core, petrophysical, and reservoir and production engineering data.
