Job Summary
This position works in a multi-discipline Asset Team and reports to the Geoscience Lead, who in turn is a direct report to the Asset Manager. The Asset Team is charged with core area value creation through aggressive primary development of identified resources. Additionally, the Asset Team is responsible for evaluating and expanding or divesting acreage holding in the core area. The position is supported by a highly qualified group of geoscience professionals including: geoscience technicians, geophysicists, petrophysicists, and GeoGraphix database analysts. As part of this role, Geologist II will be expected to perform the following tasks:
Generate and update maps in assigned area of responsibility using all appropriate data & technologies (including, but not limited to, 2D/3D seismic, production, petrophysical, geochemical and core data) to evaluate non-operated drilling proposals
Make recommendations to management for the participation in non-operated drilling proposals, inclusive of commercial/economic evaluation
Coordinate/collaborate with the land and reservoir engineering departments to properly evaluate Concho’s interest in non-operated drilling proposals and to properly quantify the economic value of said proposals to Concho
Conduct and/or coordinate post-audits on non-operated well programs and report results to management
Maintain close working relationships with peers at partner companies to both answer questions related to non-operated proposals and to follow up with data requests on non-operated wells Concho elects to participate in
Assist in evaluation of 3rd party acreage submittals and/or property acquisitions
Monitor industry activity in area of responsibility utilizing public data and industry networks
Work closely with Asset Team Land Department to acquire acreage on extensions of core area selected for leasehold capital expenditures
Work with Asset team members to develop capital budget plans and to track implementation of same
Education/Experience Required
Master’s degree in Geology or Geophysics
Minimum of 3+ years’ experience in development related geoscience work with responsibilities similar to above
Demonstrated experience and proficiency in GeoGraphix or other integrated geoscience software package
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite products, Word, Excel, PowerPoint
Must be able to work in the United States indefinitely
Education/Experience Preferred
Prior work experience in the Permian Basin
Practical experience with unconventional/resource plays is desired
Excellent oral and written communication skills
