Analyzes, evaluates and interprets geological data obtained by various methods and techniques. May work with more senior level geologist.


Work collaboratively with other geologists and Lab personnel to evaluate core using analysis techniques of rock properties that can be used by industry partners to explore for and development petroleum resources in western Canada.

Learn to operate Digital imaging microscope to capture core and thin section images for inclusion in reports.

Learn to operate XRF and Hardness equipment.

Measure, analyze, describe and record geological core data, i.e., porosity and permeability of core and chip samples, vitrinite reflectance observations, kerogen descriptions, TOC estimates, dissolution, Geo-mechanical properties, XRD.

Create environment of deposition maps on regional and local scales.

Develop basin and prospect scale models of petroleum systems.

Integrates analyses with other geological/geochemical parameters and generate industry reports.

Maintains active role in professional and industry associations and organizations to stay abreast of technical development and industry needs.

Develop an understanding of facies and depositional environments and communicate ideas to the team

Bachelor degree in geology

Be registered, or willing to register with APEGA

One to Two years of experience in the oil industry

A strong desire to learn core analysis and description techniques

Well-developed communication and presentation skills (oral and written)

Creativity and inquisitiveness

Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills

Competencywith the use of Geological mapping software, Geoscout, Petrel, would be assets
