Overview / Responsibilities
Woods Madison, Mississippi Environmental Branch is in search of a Geologist with 1 to 5 years of experience to provide assistance with field sampling events (groundwater sampling, soil boring advancement, monitoring well installation) and preparation of Phase I Environmental Site Assessments. Experience with wetland surveys is a plus.Key ResponsibilitiesCoordinating field sampling eventsData entry and report writing Conducting soil, surface water, and groundwater sampling events in various site settings Performing oversight of drilling operations including soil boring advancement and the installation of groundwater monitoring wells and/or piezometersPreparing soil boring logs, monitoring well installation logs, and cross sectionsAssisting senior staff with the preparation of proposals and technical reports including compiling analytical data and preparing potentiometric mapsSupporting various projects within Environmental Branch (e.g., Phase I Environmental Site Assessments, Phase II Environmental Site Assessments, and wetland delineations) Daytime travel and overnight (up to a week or more) travel required, as neededOvertime required, as needed Have and maintain a valid drivers license, work outdoors in various weather conditions and frequently lift up to 35 pounds
Skills / Qualifications
A Bachelors degree in Geology is required Qualified to become a Geologist-in-Training (GIT) in the State of MississippiCurrent OSHA 40-Hr HAZWOPER trainingAbility to apply analytical/scientific thinking to define and solve problemsAbility to execute field and office tasks and operate independently at times specifically in field setting Communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with management, staff, and clients Proficient in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)Able to work as part of a team, under general supervision
