This position will provide support to the geoscience and related operational needs of the company. In addition to interpreting and assessing geologic data, a Geologist 2 will be expected to perform the primary geoscience duties associated with an active drilling program with minimal or no supervision. Position will independently or through giving directions to another individual; load, manage and report geologic data using a variety of software systems; create layers and maps and cross sections as required by other departments or Supervisor; maintain drilling schedule information; annotate logs; communicate data to partners accordingly. May be asked to supervise Geotechs and well site geoscience personnel or contractors. These tasks will be performed proactively by Geologist 2 based on their analysis of the need at any given time.



  • Independently generate geologic, leasing, seismic and well activity base maps based on perceived need
  • Assess and interpret geologic data, particularly new data as it is acquired through drilling, to further Company understanding of assigned operating field or Basin
  • Oversee the geo-steering of horizontal well laterals including making real time decisions on lateral placement during drilling
  • Manage well site geoscience consultants (mudloggers, well site geologists)
  • Generate footage calls (formation depth, landing point, and bottom hole locations) for horizontal well design
  • Analyze wire line and MWD well logs to determine reservoir and rock properties and make recommendations based on such
  • Create maps and testimony for oil and gas commission hearings
  • Organize, design and maintain all types of geological databases
  • Create and update presentations for the project using PowerPoint and other geology related software
  • Communicate geologic drilling targets to the operational staff
  • Follow safe operating practices and maintain a safe working environment
  • Assure all work performed adheres to BBC standards and regulatory requirements

Knowledge & Skills:


  • Strong working knowledge of oil & gas geologic terminology and principles
  • Working knowledge of horizontal drilling with experience steering laterals strongly desired
  • General understanding of rig operations and terminology
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, spreadsheets, databases and geologic mapping software applications, like Petra, a working knowledge of well database software like Wellview and/or Wellcore a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral & written, ability to direct others
  • Strong organizational skills with ability plan timeframes for long term projects
  • Ability to work on multiple projects in a dealine driven environment
  • Ability to work in a consultative manner with every level of internal and external customer
  • Stron initiative and ability to work independently in a team environment


Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Geology



Minimum of 3-5 years progressive oil and gas geological experience required. Experience geo-steering horizontal wells is a must for the current opening.
