The Chauvin Asset Team strives to provide stable oil generated cash flow through a relentless focus on base production maintenance/optimization and low risk infill drilling. Future and/or growth initiatives include evaluating enhanced oil recovery (EOR) and acquisition/aggregation opportunites.

Position Overview and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Chauvin Asset Manager, this Calgary based position will support the ongoing operation and development of conventional heavy oil properties in Alberta and Saskatchewan with a focus on managing and optimizing existing assets and evaluating the potential for horizontal or vertical well development. The position requires the candidate to demonstrate strong communication and technical skills, the ability to thrive in a dynamic multi-disciplanary team environment and provides the opportunity to be involved in a range of responsibilities including:

Development Planning and Execution

Effectively work as part of a team composed of geoscientists, reservoir engineers, drilling/completion engineers and production operations engineers; taking the lead on geosciences issues and actively taking part in planning and decision making

Correlating and mapping multiple stratigraphic horizons, incorporating 3D seismic correlation

Develop reservoir interpretations and descriptions suitable for use in development planning and reservoir simulation studies

Be responsible for building, updating and maintaining 3D geocellular models, incroporating sedimentogical interpretations, petrophysical data and seismic attributes

Work closely with area geophysicist and reservoir engineer to ensure optimal stratigraphic placement and orientation of potential in-fill , development and asset exploration wells

Identify and permit new well locations to strategically develop well inventory

Submit regulatory applications in support of field development and ensure regulatory compliance

Coordinate wellsite geological duties/operations and ability to deliver wells safely

Generate detailed documentation to support drilling operations, oversee geological operations and provide geological interpretations while drilling

Managing & Optimizing Existing Assets

Evaluate geological risks and conduct volumetric assessments to support reserves estimation

Participate in multi-disciplinary reviews to identify/evaluate workover candidates

Support JV, Land, and Business Development through technical evaluation of land swaps, farm-ins, acquisitions, etc.

Education, Experience, Technical Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:
A Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Geology

P.Geo. designation

7+ years of petroleum industry experience, with a preference given to those with strong development geolgogy experience in W4M and W3M clastic and carbonate reservoirs

Demonstrated experience working with allied subsurface disciplines (i.e. petrophysics, geophysics, reservoir engineering and drilling/completions) to deliver projects on time and within scope

Preference will be given to candidates who have demonstrated geomodelling experience with PETREL

Skilled in the use of petroeum geoscience software and databases including Accumap and Geoscout.

Candidate Profile

Strong conventional oil geologist with the abilitiy to develop younger pools and assist in production management of mature oil pools

Ability to work with sparse or incomplete data

Flexible and pro-active attitude, see problems as challenges and working towards solutions

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills that enables effective interaction with cross-functional team members to advance projects and communicate with managment

Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

Strong work ethic and business acumen.

Desire to help create a positive work environment

Ability to work in a dynamic team environment and handle multiple requests

Highly organized, capable of assimilating large volumes of data without losing sight of overall objectives.
