Golder Associates Inc. is currently seeking an entry level Geologist / Environmental Scientist to join our team of professionals in Birmingham, AL. In this role you will have opportunities to use your knowledge of geology, hydrogeology, geochemistry, physics, etc. as we provide world-class consulting services to a variety of clients.
Responsibilities of the role will include:
Performing field activities either individually or as part of a team that may include the collection of field data, instrumentation monitoring, implementing health and safety procedures, and oversight of related subcontractor services and other field related activities;
Perform office-based data review and geologic field reconnaissance and mapping for the identification of geologic hazards;
Perform subsurface field geologic exploration tasks including drilling and test pit explorations.
Perform various media sampling (groundwater, surface water, soil, air, etc.);
Assisting with the development and distribution of field notes, meeting minutes, project action item lists, internal tracking of projects activities, and general project coordination activities in support of project managers;
Perform Phase I/II Environmental Site Assessments consistent with ASTM standards; and
Attend project meetings and contribute in meeting the requirements and deadlines associated with design documents, regulatory permits, report writing and construction activities.

Requirements:
BS in Geology or related Earth Science required; MS preferred;
Willingness to prepare for and pursue registration as a Professional Geologist (PG);
The candidate must be detail-oriented, and a team player with good communication, analytical, organization, and time management skills;
Experience performing soil classifications is required;
Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills are required, along with willingness to work as part of a group;
Ability to operate and maintain field testing and monitoring equipment;
Exhibit strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite; experience with other data analysis and database tools is a plus;
Performance of work in inclement weather conditions following OSHA requirements;
Ability to lift and transport a minimum of 50 pounds on a regular basis;
Willingness to travel for field work as dictated by project demands which could be upwards of 50% of the time and periodically adjust personal schedules to meet project needs; and
Completed 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER health and safety training and current, valid refresher course.
