Position Summary

This position will provide a variety of technical and operational support needs to the geoscience and engineering staff of the company. A Geologist 1 (either independently or through giving directions to another individual) will load, manage and report geologic data using a variety of software systems, plan wells, follow drilling wells, create post-well reports, create layers and maps and cross sections for various users, and annotate logs. These tasks will be performed proactively by Geologist 1 based on their analysis of the need at any given time.

Work in an operations geology capacity planning, following, and reporting drillwells, with 24/7 accountability for geologic operations.
Independently generate geologic, leasing, seismic and well activity base maps based on perceived need
Organize, design and maintain all types of geological databases
Create and update presentations for the project using PowerPoint and other geology related software
Follow safe operating practices and maintain a safe working environment
Assure all work performed adheres to HPR standards and regulatory requirements
Other duties as assigned
Knowledge & Skills:

Basic knowledge of oil & gas geologic terminology and principles
Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, spreadsheets, databases and geologic mapping software applications, like Petra, some knowledge of well database software a plus.
Strong working knowledge of related terminology
Excellent communication skills, both oral & written, ability to direct others
Strong organizational skills with ability plan timeframes for long term projects
Ability to work on multiple projects in a deadline driven environment
Strong ability to work in a consultative manner with every level of internal and external stakeholder
Strong initiative and ability to work independently within a team environment

BS Degree in Geology or expected equivalent education or work experience, MS preferred.


Minimum of 0-2 years oil and gas geologist experience required, including an internship with an oil & gas operator. Knowledge of DJ Basin is preferred.
