The Role
PETRONAS Canada currently has a vacancy for a Geological Technologist to join our team in Calgary. Reporting to the Manager, Geology, the successful candidate will provide geo-technical support to a team of geologists and geophysicists. The incumbent’s main responsibilities will be to provide support to the team’s Petrel projects and manage the PETRONAS digital log (LAS) database. The successful candidate will also maintain the team’s Geoscout project.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
Create and manage projects in Petrel and GeoScout
Maintain and manage the PETRONAS LAS data base
Maintain geological information databases, tracking and updating data/information, generating reports and data summaries, and identifying and resolving data discrepancies
Participate in the development and implementation of process improvements, gathering information/reports, conducting preliminary research, synthesizing information and summarizing findings
Assist area geologists and geophysicists with the geotechnical aspects of day-to-day operations
Participate in department projects and initiatives, providing input, supporting research and information, and managing assigned tasks, deliverables and timelines
Identify opportunities for improvement to support area review activities and initiatives by researching industry best practices and emerging trends, summarizing findings and providing results and ideas for review by senior staff
Required Education, Experience and Skills
Geosciences related diploma from an accredited college or institution
7+ years’ experience within the oil and gas industry
Very organized, with a high attention to detail
Able to prioritize work, multi-task and adapt to changing priorities in a fast paced, high volume team environment
Organized, practical in their knowledge base, with an attention to detail and the ability to work strictly in a digital environment
Proficient in Petrel (including Studio) and Geoscout
Basic understanding of wireline log data and experience working with and managing LAS data
Experience working with Geographic Information Systems, GIS file types, and using software such as ArcGIS, Global Mapper considered an asset.
Familiarity with computer language scripting considered an asset
