ConocoPhillips is looking for an experienced and motivated Geological Technician to support the petrophysics, geophysics, reservoir quality, structure, sedimentology and stratigraphy disciplines in the ESOI organization. The role will support the analysis and characterization of both conventional and very low permeability unconventional resource plays (shales, mudstones, siltstones) and new entry opportunities. We desire an individual who has experience working with log, core, and seismic data, and manipulating those datasets through a variety of geotechnical applications.
Responsibilities may include:
Assist in designing, building, and populating searchable database of unconventional rock and log data
Compile, collate, and maintain core analysis data to be utilized and stored in an unconventional rock catalog
Review, edit, and provide quality assurance for data to be entered into databases
Locate and provide quality assurance for petrophysical datasets; log clean-up
Generate Techlog projects, and transform data to and from Petrel Studio to Techlog
Clean up existing network data structure for project
Provide expertise in i-Point and ArcGIS utilization, including database management
Assist in development of a ConocoPhillips proprietary petrographic visualization tool
Build, improve, and maintain thin section, billet, and sample library
Provide SEM image analysis and collocation as needed
Wellcad support, including facilitating integration with other workflows.
Support the global well stress, petromechanics and rock mechanics database
Create maps in ArcGIS to include in searchable database
Provide logistical support for sample handling and coordination
Locate, extract, and condition COP data from database resources
Evaluate external digital rock physics software/code options
Data analytics in Spotfire
Build, create, and update macros in Microsoft Excel, Matlab, and Python for Techlog
Legally authorized to work in the United States
Bachelor's degree in Geology or related field
10+ years of experience in geotechnical support or related fields
Proficient with ArcGIS, Techlog, Matlab, i-Point, Microsoft Office products, Adobe products, Openworks, Geolog/Loglan, and Interactive Petrophysics
Advanced level of proficiency with core analyses and core-log integration for reservoir properties
Advanced integration skills with other subsurface disciplines
Ability work within a technical team
Experience with DSG, Petra, Petrel, Kingdom, Touchstone, and WellCad geologic software packages
Experience with supervised machine learning and data analytics workflows
Excellent social, communication and presentation skills
Experience completing evaluations that have short deadlines and incomplete data
Delivers results through realistic planning to accomplish goals
