You will work alongside the tailings technology development team and will be responsible for training the process of geochemical models developed for tailing treatment. The activities you will be involved in will expose you to the slurry mechanics, in-line and off-line measurement of behavior, process and modelling.
You will use your expertise to:
Collate data collected from process testing at pilot and commercial scales for process model training
Port process model into standard geotechnical models for finite strain consolidation
Work with mine and tailings planning to develop settlement trajectories

Must-haves (minimum requirements):
Current enrollment in a formal co-op or internship program in 4th year or Master’s Geological Engineering at an accredited post-secondary institution, and returning to full-time studies after the work term

You have completed basic engineering soil mechanics, fluid mechanics and material science courses
You to have an interest in non-Newtonian fluids behavior
Deep understanding and extraordinary skills in data analytics
Extraordinary computer skills with intermediate to advanced proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel
A continuous improvement mindset and are able to seek greater knowledge and understanding of the systems, process and hazards in the workplace
A zero-tolerance for shortcuts, and if the procedure is incorrect, you fix it
Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other meaningful information:
You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W.
Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday
This is an 8 month work term, from May 2019 – December 2019
