The newly formed International Developments group is part of the Global Exploration and International Development (GEAID) organization and is responsible for the development aspects of our international properties outside the US GoM and the UK. The current main focus of the group is on our off-shore / deepwater properties in Guyana and Nigeria and ensuring that we are set up for success with non-operated and operated assets.

This role will be responsible for providing high-end geological direction within our subsurface work program working closely with geologists, reservoir engineers, geophysicists, petrophysicists, the development project managers, functional managers, appraisal teams and other functional groups.

A key focus within GEAID is Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE). As a senior member of the team, a commitment to being a role model for HSE is expected. The HSE of both people and projects take a top priority and should be led by example through all levels of management. This will be facilitated by placing high importance on safety and regulatory compliance in all GEAID activities.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
Candidates must have experience working on offshore developments with a preference for deepwater developments. The candidate will be responsible for providing the geological direction in the interpretations and models used in the subsurface analysis of our development projects. Hence he/she will enable the group to produce top quality subsurface technical work focused on the development issues facing the project(s) associated with our deepwater development program. He / She will have the ability to direct and ensure the following in work products:

Through the quality of work produced and a high level of interpersonal skills become recognized as an integral part of Nexen by our joint venture partners by earning a ‘seat at the table’;
Direct the delivery of fit-for-purpose, timely geological interpretations for use in geologic reservoir models
Technically mentor more junior staff as appropriate and oversee their professional development;
Build effective relationships with colleagues within the wider GEAID/Nexen organizations. This may include limited travel to Canada, China, and Nigeria;
Spread learnings, expertise and best practices to other parts of the organization within GEAID/Nexen;
Participate as a technical or stage gate reviewer as appropriate within GEAID/Nexen;
Be able to mentor others in the GEAID G&G community in the common software tools used;
Not be just conceptual in giving advice, but actually show others by sitting down at the keyboard and demonstrating how analyses are conducted and the reasoning behind the analyses;
Be competent and able to direct structural modeling within Petrel;
Be competent in and able to direct facies and petrophysical modeling within Petrel;
Be competent in and able to direct uncertainty modeling within Petrel to include workflows;
Be competent in and able to direct Probabilistic & Deterministic methods for characterizing resource ranges
Be competent in and able to direct the upscaling of finely gridded models to be compatible with numerical simulation models;
Work closely and in parallel with reservoir engineers and other Nexen G&G groups on a daily basis.
Education & Experience
A minimum of a Master's degree in geosciences, PhD preferred;
A minimum of 15 years industry experience;
Significant experience in the geological modeling process used and their impact on subsurface models from seismic through numerical simulation;
Good understanding of the commercial and organizational environment.
