This position will focus on basin analysis and development of geologic models to enable appraisal of acquisition and business development opportunities.  Expectations are for the successful candidate to incorporate geoscience data into a multi-discipline view that includes:   log and core analysis, petrophysics, structural and stratigraphic appraisal, definition of maturity limits, reservoir characterization, OOIP and risk analysis.   The successful candidate will prepare technical evaluations and presentations for senior management and / or potential buyers incorporating the identification of downside risks and upside opportunities. This position is located in our Houston, TX. Level and salary commensurate with experience.

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Assess new opportunities, understand key performance drivers, frame resource in place, identify viable inventory, and plans for full field development
  • Define over / under risk associated with plays under consideration
  • Evaluate and describe variability in well performance results to subsurface rationale
  • Jointly develop depletion plans, with engineering and operations to maximize value, balancing the long and short term needs of the company
  • Applies working knowledge of petroleum systems geochemistry, geo-mechanics, operations activity and structural geology
  • Ability to merge log derived rock data with core derived rock, fluids and saturation information into an integrated petrophysical analysis
  • Ability to work efficiently with limited data sets, in a short time periods, to define new venture opportunities.
  • The geologist is responsible for:
    • Basin to field level assessments, largely focused on unconventional resources
    • Concepts which may add value in non-producing or existing reservoirs
    • Sub-surface risk appraisal
    • Presentation of findings to senior management
  • Provide technical guidance / mentorship to other geologists, engineers or technicians
  • Prepared to act as team leader for geological or multi-disciplinary projects
  • Complete reservoir descriptions of oil and gas including relevant geologic based structure, isopach maps, cross sections, or other reservoir property maps

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology
  • 15 years of conventional / unconventional basin experience with an E&P company
  • Multi-basin unconventional experience
  • Strong / fluent fundamental petrophysical background
  • Strong reservoir characterization skills
  • Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer, stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions, strength to lift and carry files weighing up to 10 pounds; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Geology
  • 8 years of unconventional play experience in more than one basin.
  • Conventional play experience
  • Experience with tight sands and laminated pays
  • Demonstrated A&D experience
  • Demonstrated results in resource assessment and full field development plans
  • Demonstrated ability to apply extensive and diversified knowledge of geological principles, advanced techniques, and modifications and extensions of theories
  • Working knowledge and experience in Petrophysical Concepts
    • especially as it applies to unconventional resources
    • calibration of core to log parameters
  • Experience working in/or developing O&G marketing / data room materials
  • 2-D and 3-D seismic interpretation (working knowledge), Structural modeling and mapping
  • Driven, results oriented and independent geologist that works extremely well with peers across the organization
  • Strong communication skills within a multidisciplinary team and in presentations to executive management group
  • Working experience with Petra or SMT
