Reporting to the Supervisor, Mine Field Geology, you will support safe, compliant, and effective production at Athabasca Oil Sands Project (AOSP) by assisting in the delivery of ore to the crushers optimizing operations and plant production.
This position is based at our Albian OIl Sands site in Fort McMurray, Alberta and is eligible for:
Relocation to Calgary, Edmonton, or Fort McMurrayCompany Sponsored Fly-In/Fly-Out and Accommodations Program with charter flights from Calgary or Edmonton

Daily inspections of pit faces for grade and feed quality control by detailed geological interpretations and mapping of the Cretaceous and Pleistocene deposits within AlbianDaily communication of field geology changes for optimized operations and plant productionDaily inspections and monitoring of geohazardsCreate distribution maps and graphs to communicate critical oil sand properties and geology for mine planning/operations, tailings planning and bitumen production operations.Work with the geotechnical group and overburden removal contractor to assist with material classifications and construction utilizationProvide geological updates to the Vulcan geological model, Petrel and AcQuire databaseAssist with the planning and implementation of onsite geological investigations as required, advancing the development of the Mine and improving the geological model and overall operationsMaintain effective communication with stakeholders including Field Geology, Mine Engineering, Mine operationsBe a self starter with a strong ability to work with minimal supervision while meeting tight project deadlines
Geo-Sciences Degree is requiredMinimum 3 years’ experience in sedimentary geology, preferably in Oil SandsRegistration or eligibility for registration with APEGA is requiredMust possess a valid class 5 Drivers' License with clean recordProficient with MS OfficeExperience in Vulcan, Petrel, and AcQuire will be considered an assetKnowledge of clastic and carbonate geology; a working knowledge of the McMurray Formation will be considered an assetPrevious mining and project management experience would be an assetFamiliarity with the geology of the Athabasca RegionMapping, database, GIS and/or geological modeling skills would be an asset
