Job Title: Geoscience Advisor
Location: Austin, TX
Reports to: Geoscience Manager - Exploration
Summary/objective: Parsley Energy is seeking an experienced geoscientist that works closely with the clients of New Plays and Shale Technology to fully describe, value and identify best practices for the development of unconventional resource plays.
Essential functions:
Provide a “go-to” technical resource with regard to the cross-disciplinary integration of geoscience data that helps unlock the economic upside of fine-grained petroleum systems.
Maintain a high level of knowledge and professional participation in recent advances regarding laboratory, down-hole, and field techniques that can be applied to managing development of unconventional resources.
Provide a complimentary skill set to our existing advisor and technical specialist team with a focus on the effective integration of both organic and inorganic geochemistry with traditional facies and stratigraphic interpretations.
Function as a business unit and asset team resource to advocate and help implement best practices in the characterization and analysis of both unconventional and conventional petroleum system plays.
Provide “on-demand” interpretation and advisory support to the Business Development function within Pioneer with regard to valuation and data room analysis of acquisition targets.
Actively participate and assume some ownership of the mentoring process associated with pre-hire interns that are hosted by Pioneer.
Assume the ownership and advocacy for the value derived from 2 or more 3rd party JIP’s (consortiums).
Provide oversight and quality assurance regarding selected 3rd party analytical services in a defined niche.
Knowledge, Skills, and Attributes:
Experience in onshore U.S. basins with Permian Basin experience preferred.
Experience working unconventional resource plays and conventional plays.
Experience in horizontal well planning, operations geology, geosteering and data integration.
Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.
Petrophysical and core analysis experience.
Proficient in geologic workflows using geologic software, Petra experience preferred.
Proven ability to provide support and advice to asset teams.
Must have excellent written and verbal skills and demonstrate a level of excellence in presentation skills.
Supervisory responsibilities:
Work Environment:
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines .
Physical Demands:
This is largely a sedentary role: However, while performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The worker is also required to have close visual acuity for viewing a computer terminal, reading, transcribing, and preparing and analyzing data and figures.
Position type and expected hours of work:
This is a full-time position, and typical work hours are Monday-Friday 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. or 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Some flexibility in hours is allowed, but the employee must be available during the “core” work hours.
Travel: Overnight travel typically during the workweek may be required. No more than 15% per year.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in Geoscience or related field is required.
Minimum of 12 years’ experience in the Oil & Gas industry is required.
