The Role

Progress is currently seeking an Exploitation Engineer to join the team in Calgary. Reporting to the Team Lead, Exploitation, the successful incumbent will have experience in unconventional resources and be responsible for the development and optimization of a world class unconventional Montney asset, the North Montney Joint Venture (“NMJV”).

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • Provide technical input and guidance for short-term and long-term planning used in the Upstream Development Plan for the NMJV
  • Coordinate assignments of a multi-disciplinary team to support the development and optimization of the NMJV
  • Prepare proposals and business cases for projects to enhance the development of management areas within the NMJV.  Develop project scope and objectives, manage deliverables, timelines, resources and related budgets, resolve issues and prepare and present progress reports
  • Provide recommendations to optimize drilling and completing of wells, by monitoring well and reservoir performance, identify depletion or optimization opportunities and provide technical input into field development plans
  • Conduct detailed technical research and provide data analysis to recommend cost-reduction initiatives and production/completion optimization opportunities
  • Identify opportunities for improvement on technical applications to support development activities and initiatives
  • Develop relationships with professional associations and unconventional industry peers to keep current on best practices and trends impacting development
  • Monitor on-going activity within the unconventional sector and evaluate emerging exploration/exploitation prospects to help meet corporate objectives
  • Compile individual area budgets, preparing forecasts and projections, explaining variances, and reviewing AFE expenditures
  • Provide support to the evaluations engineering team in booking corporate reserves while working with third party evaluator(s) to ensure comprehensive assessments and interpretations are completed

Required Education, Experience and Skills

  • A Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering, with a minimum of 7-10 years of experience in a development engineering role
  • Must have proven work experience within unconventional resources and have a thorough understanding of all aspects within managing an asset
  • Previous experience in reservoir engineering would be considered an asset
  • Strong working knowledge and proficiency in Accumap, GeoScout, WellView, Windows and MS Office
  • Excellent analytical and communications skills
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple projects at once
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment within cross functional teams and effectively engage others in support of projects and initiatives
