Overview / Responsibilities
Wood is seeking an Entry-Level Geologist to join our team in Blue Bell, PA. Essential Tasks and ResponsibilitiesPerforms field sampling observations and data collection assignments; These assignments will be performed under the direct supervision or guidance of more experienced field personnelPerforms standard or routine calculations; May input data into and/or run standard or, in some cases, advanced computer programs under supervisionCompiles information from reports and published documents; May, under limited supervision, evaluate or analyze the compiled information following standard methods or specific instructionsRecognizes and identifies discrepancies in results obtained in such assignments and follow up through a series of related steps or procedures, as directed by more senior personnel; Refers unresolved situations and/or activities to the project managerUnder direct supervision of the project manager or senior staff, represents Wood and interacts in a professional manner with client and subcontractor representatives while on field assignmentsResponsible for ensuring the Firms administrative and financial policies and procedures as well as the methods and procedures specific to his/her specific discipline are followedUnderstands and applies safety requirements in the fieldAdditional Tasks and ResponsibilitiesMay be responsible for coordinating with subcontractors (such as analytical laboratories and drillers) while performing office assignmentsMay be responsible for reviewing client documents or assessing existing site conditions on routine projects or under routine circumstances; All findings of such work will be reviewed and approved by the project manager or other senior personnelMay be responsible for preparing complete drafts of simple, non-complex technical reports; alternately, may prepare drafts of portions of technical reports, manuals and field reports; All drafts must be reviewed in detail and approved by the project manager or senior personnelIf requested to participate in proposal preparation (work scope, task-level budgeting, cost estimates), may perform calculations, gather or review information, or prepare standard sections of proposals; All assignments related to the proposal preparation will be reviewed in detail and approved by the project manager or senior personnelMay attend client meetings with project manager and other project personnelMay assist in the preparation of technical papers for publication or presentationOther duties as assigned
Skills / Qualifications
0 2 years of prior related work experience; experience in fieldwork is desirableBachelors Degree in related field required; Masters Degree a plusExperience with desktop and industry-specific software (e.g., MS Office, AutoCAD, and MS Project) desiredHands on knowledge of the use of field equipment desirableMust have sound written and verbal communication skillsAbility to establish effective internal and external working relationshipsAbility to communicate clearly with on-site contractors, supervisor or project manager regarding work assignments requiredPhysical Job RequirementsAbility to stoop, kneel, climb and lift up to 50 poundsAbility to drive large pick-up truck; ability to drive a trailer helpfulAbility to use hands to operate field equipmentClose, distance, and peripheral vision; normal auditory functionMust complete employment physical demonstrating ability to meet job requirements, including the ability to wear a respirator, as requiredCompletion of annual or bi-annual employment physical, as requiredLicense / Certification RequirementsValid drivers license and insurable driving recordMust pass 40 Hour HAZWOPER Training and annual refresher course, if requiredMachines, Tools and/or Equipment UsedField tools and equipmentPickup truck and/or other motor vehicle(s); some locations require individual to have their own vehicleOffice equipment such as photocopy machine and fax machinePersonal computer and desk top software (e.g., MSOffice)Work EnvironmentMay require work at remote sites around construction equipment, drilling rigs, explosives and environmental contaminationOvertime and overnight stays requiredSome fieldwork may require working with hazardous materials and in hazardous conditionsMay be subject to periods of extreme heat and cold and other environmental conditions such as wind as humidityWill be required to follow all applicable health and safety procedures associated with work environmentTravelMay travel frequently to project sites depending on particular assignment, including sites remote from the office, as part of on-site team
