Job Summary

The Production Engineer position is an office-based position with frequent field visits as required. Field visits expose the engineer to high pressure, flammable gases/liquids and heavy machinery among others hazards. Recognition of hazards and application of safety procedures is of upmost importance. Most duties performed will vary from day to day with some duties required daily. Most duties require thinking, analysis and problem solving. The engineer will need to work with both technical and operational staff on most projects and will also need to work with vendors and service companies on other projects such as:

Identify wells that are underperforming their production forecast

Recommend solutions for re-establishing forecasted production rates

Select, design, implement and optimize deliquification and artificial lift solutions

Identify opportunities for improving production and reducing costs

Evaluate impact of production solutions and track optimized wells

Forecast production uplift for compression and other projects

Track and update surface production allocations

Provide support for operations and reservoir engineering

Design and oversee chemical programs for paraffin, scale and corrosion

This role is the top progression level position in the engineer series. Includes senior to technical expert engineers, able to perform difficult and complex work requiring thorough knowledge of the subject matter and significant experience within functional assignment area. Schedules and coordinates major segments of complex projects to meet cost and time objectives. Plans and conducts work requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection, adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures and criteria. Devises new approaches to problems encountered and develops engineering criteria ensuring compliance with design criteria and standards. At higher levels of proficiency within this classification, incumbents are expected to provide technical expertise and/or team leadership as needed. May be required to apply intensive and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices to major projects that have significant impact on programs in varied areas and related fields. May serve as a technical expert on engineering related legal and regulatory issues to outside entities.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

Knowledge Required

A minimum of 5 years experience applying production engineering principles, preferably with a focus in addressing liquid loading.
In-depth and expert knowledge of natural gas production engineering
In-depth and expert knowledge of gas well deliquification
In-depth and expert knowledge of artificial lift
Full knowledge of concepts and applications of wellbore dynamics
Full knowledge of concepts and applications of petroleum chemistry
Basic knowledge and job specific application of petroleum production systems
Basic knowledge and job specific application of oil and gas industry trends and best practices
Basic knowledge and general applications of project management principles

Skills Required

Proficiency with personal computer
Proficiency with SCADA and automation
Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access
Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record

Abilities Required

Ability to define problems, collect and analyze data, and draw conclusions
Ability to plan and organize work
Ability to create and give presentations
Ability to communicate and work effectively in teams
Ability to learn software programs such as Aries, Spotfire, ProdOP, Echometer TWM, etc.

Education Requirements

A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in engineering, preferably a BS of Petroleum Engineering.

REQUIRED ENGINEERING CRITERIA: For placement of a candidate in the Engineer job series, the following criteria must be met: Possess a 4-year engineering degree from an ABET accredited engineering program based on the year that the engineering program was accredited by ABET, or Possess a 4-year engineering degree from an institution outside of the U.S. which is accredited through the country's own engineering accrediting body under the Washington Accord as a full signatory, and is a degree that was recognized by the country's accrediting body on or after the date that full signatory status was achieved, or Possess a 4-year engineering degree from a non-ABET accredited program and a post-graduate engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same engineering discipline is ABET accredited based on the year the engineering program was accredited by ABET, or Possess a 4-year degree in Physics, Chemistry or Math and a post-graduate engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same engineering discipline is ABET accredited based on the year the engineering program was accredited by ABET, or Holds or has previously held a valid U.S. Professional Engineer license.
