Chevron Canada Resources is currently seeking a Drilling Operations Geologist to join the Canadian Business Unit. This position will be based in Calgary, Alberta and will report to the Drilling Engineering Team Lead. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting our Drilling planning and operations team from an earth science geologist perspective for our unconventional asset.
Chevron is accepting online applications for the position of Drilling Operations Geologist located in Calgary, Alberta through Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at 11:59 p.m. (Eastern Standard Time).
The Operations Geologist is responsible for the optimal planning, monitoring, acquisition and interpretation of all well geological activities and updating the subsurface team with all operational and geological information.
Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:
Supervise, manage and support geosteering of horizontal shale gas wells in a 24/7 drilling operation.
Perform real time interpretation of various LWD tools in a challenging geologic environment.
Aid in LWD quality control and confirm efficient transfer of LWD and directional survey distribution is occurring.
Able to perform and supervise mudlogging operations; collection and description of samples and create detailed mudlogs.
Utilize EDR to analysis gas, rate of penetration, differential pressure, weight on bit, annulus pressure, and various drilling parameters to aid in geologic interpretation.
Provide drilling targets to directional drilling team and well site supervisor and ensure steering targets are being executed on.
Generate and distribute detailed data driven reports regarding geologic interpretations, observations, and drilling parameters.
Communicate frequently with office geologists, directional drillers, MWD personnel, drilling engineers, wellsite supervisors, and other wellsite personnel.
Understanding of all government(s) regulations for the collection and submission of required well data.
Prepare subsurface drilling hazard assessment (SSHA) documents and perform detailed offset analysis
Degree in geoscience with a broad-based subsurface evaluation skillset. Post graduate, MBA degrees or relevant asset evaluation experience is an asset.
Minimum 5 years of relevant Oil and Gas industry experience is required, preferable with direct experience supporting drilling operations dedicated to an unconventional asset.
Excellent communication and organizational skills and enjoy working in a fast-paced, results-driven environment.
Extensive experience in geosteering and use of geosteering software to drive drilling performance.
Good understanding of subsurface risks, uncertainty management and Value of Information analysis. A working knowledge of the ERT process is desired.
Proven ability to analyze and understand complex situations quickly and develop practical, appropriate solutions to resolve high impact people/business/process issues.
Must be flexible and able to adapt to changing work priorities and deliver high quality, accurate work with multiple deadlines.
Accumap, Petrel, Wellview experience is considered an asset.
Demonstrated ability to work productively in a team environment, both supporting other team members and contributing to the effectiveness and reliability of the team.
Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
Relocation within Canada will be considered.
Expatriate assignments will not be considered.
