OVERALL JOB PURPOSE:
Direct and Lead the near mine exploration programmes, resource valuation programmes on new project and resource estimation, for base and precious metals and industrial mineral resources. Principle accountabilities are planning, design and development of brownfield exploration operations, geological evaluations of the near mine geology, appraisal of the potential commercial viability of the target areas, management of the programs within budget and ensuring the health and safety of the personnel.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Description
Planning & Evaluation
Plan, budget and execute resource evaluation programs on brownfield and new Greenfield resources identified by Exploration teams
Collaborate effectively with the Greenfield Exploration and Mine operation team to ensure seamless transfer of project responsibiliies data and information
Design Manage and execute projects effectively on both cost time and resource allocation on a range of activities including target generation, drilling, logging, sampling, QA/QC, geotechnical assessment, geological interpretation, and block modelling and resource statements.

Exploration and development and project plans are prepared, approved and implemented.
Collaboration agreements are finalized and signed off
Drilling & Testing
Plan and co-ordinate drilling activities to infill outlined resource shapes and to test unexplored areas identified by the geological analysis and interpretation
Evaluate new projects discovered by the Exploration team by drill and other testing
Investigate near mine areas as defined to identify extensions to existing resources or new resources to extend mining life of existing operations or revive dormant operations
Liaise with the Mine Operations department to collate and analyze underground and surface mine and geological data, combined with drill core interpretations, to develop robust geological resource models
Performance Indicators
Resource evaluation drilling programs and data collection completed in accord with quality specifications
Potential near mine exploration targets identified and assessed according to technical and commercial criteria,
Resource Modelling
Oversee resource modeling process, creating and validating geological and resource models containing geological, grade, ore quality and geotechnical information
Act as liaison with external consultants and auditors as needed
Reconcile production versus resource modelling estimates to assess the accuracy of and refine the resource modeling process
Performance Indicators
Produce resource models to JORC Code standard
Accuracy of model based on reconciliations with mine production
Mine Development
Represent Exploration in liaison with New Mines and Operations departments and external consultants through formalized meetings, and reports.
Performance Indicators
Programme design, execution and resource allocation in accordance with company needs.
Management Reporting
Coordinate and present reports to VP Exploration and other senior team members as needed on interim and final results of exploration and evaluation programs, geological interpretations and conclusions, and recommendations for further work
Oversee assembly and submission of monthly, mid-year and year- end geology reports, including reconciliation and QA/QC statements, miscellaneous technical reports and contribute to strategic business plan

Prepare and present all relevant details in a timely manner in reports and documents.
DMMR
Oversee the compilation of the six-monthly report on exploration activities for submission to DMMR (Deputy Ministry of Mineral Resources) and exploration license applications for ratification
Report to senior stakeholders all geological information pertaining to the exploitation and development of the mineral resources
Performance Indicators
Preparation and submission of reports to required quality on time
Resolve effectively any queries that arise from DMMR
Team Leadership
Lead and manage a multicultural team of geologists geoscientists, geo-technicians and support personnel to ensure that daily activities are performed in a safe, effective and efficient manner
Ensure compliance with Company's Health, Safety and Environment programs, policies and procedures with the aim of preventing injuries and incidents
Develop the skills and capabilities of all team members through active coaching and mentoring, allied with succession planning to a talent pipeline for the future

Work Contacts
Internal
Frequent contact with the VP Exploration on all Near Mine Exploration & Resource strategic and operational matters.
Frequent contact with immediate peers and other managers within his own and other Departments of Exploration division for system, process and project coordination.
Periodic contacts with the President and with Board Members on all Near Mine Exploration & Resource matters of a strategic nature, deputizing for VP Exploration as appropriate ..
External
Consultants
Suppliers, joint venture partners, internal customers and government agencies.
Job relevant information (BOUNDARIES & DECISION MAKING AUTHORITY):
There is considerable latitude in planning and executing a comprehensive Near Mine work program within broad guidelines agreed with the VP Exploration.
Develops own work programs and is involved in high level discussions and negotiations. reviewing progress and obtaining VP Exploration sanction to major commitments.
Scope: Near Mine & Exploration function and activities for the entire division.
Decisions: Post holder has discretionary authority in line with the delegation of authority and procedural agreements. Full accountability for direction and control of all the multi-million dollar Near Mine activities in collaboration with the VP Exploration.
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:
Possess the following :
Bachelor Degree in Geology in geology or a related discipline
At least 15 years of relevant experience in a combination of exploration, mining and resource geology; several years at Chief Geologist level;
Experience with major or medium sized mining and exploration companies;
Competence in geological and resource modeling, exploration and geological software
Experience in a range of commodities and mineral deposit types;
Competent Person status in one or more commodities relevant to the work;
Ability to manage and lead cross-cultural teams;
A strong work ethic and high levels of professionalism; field oriented and be able to work effectively with multiple projects and deadlines;
Strong verbal, written and communication skills in English are essential;
