We are looking for an experienced and motivated individual to fill the position of Development Geologist with the Subsurface Characterization Team in the Permian Resources Texas Delaware Business Unit. This position is based in Houston and will report to the Subsurface Characterization Manager.

Essential Job Duties:
The open position is an opportunity to work in a cross-functional team environment with other Geoscientists and Engineers performing reservoir characterization, modeling and field development planning for unconventional projects. Primary duties involve performing detailed geologic studies in order to plan and execute field development plans.

Qualifications

Education:

Master’s degree in geology

Experience:

Prefer at least 7 or more years of industry experience with an emphasis in reservoir characterization. Production and appraisal experience and general operational exposure is attractive. Past demonstration of great technical and financial project success, and unconventional development experience are both highly coveted.

Professional/Technical Knowledge:
Well-rounded, broad knowledge-base in: unconventional reservoir characterization and geology, field development planning, economic analysis, uncertainty/risk analysis, the ability to work with multi-disciplinary groups and leverage Oxy’s vast support groups. Experience with Petrel/Landmark 3D reservoir modeling software is required.

Ability to integrate and synthesize geology, geophysics, petrophysics, and engineering data into comprehensive interpretation
Ability to make technically and economically sound recommendations based on interpretations
Proficient in Landmark workstation tools and/or Petrel for mapping and cross section studies
Experience building large 3D reservoir models in Petrel/Landmark that integrate log and seismic data
Log interpretation skills with the ability to integrate hundreds of wells into a stratigraphic interpretation quickly and efficiently
Outcrop and core interpretation skills
Ability to calculate OOIP volumetrics at both field and section level
Time management skills to personally plan work and execute large studies – meeting goals within time constraints
Strong and effective communication skills (verbal, written, presentation)
Understands and has previous involvement in operations geology (horizontal well planning, geosteering, mudlog vendor screening)

Desired Competencies:
Working knowledge of Permian Basin geology
Involvement with summer intern/new hire mentorship
