Overview:
Geosteering Geologists will be responsible for overseeing high-quality execution of geology-related aspects of FourPoint’s horizontal drilling program in the Western Anadarko Basin and Midland Basin. This includes providing geologic data for the planning and permitting of new wells, creation or updating of geologic prognoses, and the geosteering of the horizontal wells within a tightly defined stratigraphic window in the target reservoir. The position will require effective written and verbal communication with office and field staff. Before, during, and after each well is drilled, organized well folders will be updated and maintained to allow other members of the Geology and Operations team to access up-to-date data and interpretations. Also responsible for providing as-needed support to other members of the Geology team when additional assistance is required and steering work load allows. This position will work 12 hour shifts for 24 hour coverage, with a 7 days on/7 days off rotation and will rotate between days and nights.
Responsibilities:
Generate all or parts of geologic prognoses and pre-job steering packets for upcoming horizontal drill wells, as required.
Quality check survey plats against geologic prognoses for upcoming horizontal drill wells and double check the same as wells are planned. Update Geoprogs with new final locations from plats as necessary.
Confirm hard lines on plats and directional plans with lead geologist as part of the pre-spud checklist.
Build Petra cross sections and create SES well for the drill well using FourPoint’s data management practices before well is spud.
Import and quality check directional plans from well planners into Petra and SES to confirm that target goals are being achieved, hard lines are being honored and appropriate drilling windows are referenced.
During drilling of the vertical section, monitor data (MWD GR, ROP, total gas, etc.) and watch for key markers above KOP to be able to communicate any necessary adjustments needed to the lead geologist if tops are coming in significantly high or low. Be prepared to recommend a new target centerline to lead geologist.
Geosteer well in the curve and lateral to TD. Attend end/beginning of shift handoff/update meetings with team members. Generate and distribute end of shift report for all wells in the curve or lateral in the Western Anadarko Basin. Generate and distribute mid-shift and end of shift individual well reports for wells in the curve or lateral in the Midland Basin.
During the drilling of the curve and lateral, monitor data (MWD GR, ROP, total gas, etc.) and communicate with the mudlogger if necessary to assess the validity of the current correlation(s) and the potential need for target line adjustments.
If/when target changes are executed in the curve and lateral, immediately import and QC the directional plan in SES and Petra to ensure it meets target goals outlined in the target change. Provide the lead geologist with feedback on if the plan is good for approval or needs additional changes.
While the well is in the curve or lateral, update Petra and SES cross sections in PDF format and save in the appropriate well file folder on the shared drive daily.
At TD, all well files and databases in SES and Petra will be scrubbed according to the FourPoint Geosteering Protocol and TD Checklist. Create a post-drill geosteering summary PowerPoint file for lead geologist to review and distribute.
Maintain an orderly workspace in the Geosteering Center and make sure the area is clean at the end of each shift.
Assist the rest of the Geology team with other work as steering/operational work load allows. This may include preparing PowerPoint slide decks, spread sheet entry and analysis, digitizing logs, running petrophysical workflow, generating maps, creating staking packets, etc.

Qualifications:
Education, Skills and Experience Required:
A Bachelor’s degree in Geology with 2+ years experience in oil and gas exploration and production or related industry. Some geosteering experience required.
Possess ability to analyze and maximize existing resources.
Exceptional computer application skills, specifically PETRA (or similar software package) and SES (or similar geosteering software).
Have an ability to work independently as well as with a team.
Must have good communication skills, both verbal and written.
Possess analytical/critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Must be able to accomplish several assignments concurrently, efficiently handling a heavy workload, and effectively working with people at several different levels in the organization.
Physical Requirements:
Sitting, visual and mental acuity, manual dexterity, hearing, speaking.
Ability to work at computer for long periods of time.
