Job Overview
Are you an enthusiastic, results oriented and self-motivated engineering student?
Based in St. John’s, reporting functionally to the Joint Ventures Reservoir Engineering Lead, the Reservoir Engineering Co-op Student will work with the Joint Ventures and Terra Nova Subsurface Teams (engineers and geoscientists), to provide reservoir technical analysis to support the ongoing operations and investments within the East Coast region of the Suncor Exploration and Production Business Unit. The fields include Terra Nova, Hibernia, White Rose, and Hebron.
Key Accountabilities
The Reservoir Engineering Co-op Student will work directly with the team to:
Work with a primary mentor/engineer to assist with tasks and daily workload
Complete technical reservoir and economic analyses of incremental investments in existing assets
Evaluate and optimize existing pool performance (property development strategy)
Undertake fluid characterization and well test analysis
Use thermal reservoir simulators for optimizing depletion strategies
Review daily production data for accuracy and capture in data management systems
Support regular field monitoring and reporting
Prepare and present summary reports, performance metrics reports, graphical representation and PowerPoint presentations as required
Assist other engineers as required
Required Qualifications
Experience and Education:
Currently enrolled full-time in 2nd, 3rd or 4th year of an engineering program at an accredited university and returning to full-time studies after the work term

Skills and Knowledge:
Sound understanding of key reservoir engineering principles is essential
Broad reservoir engineering experience including reservoir simulation and development planning experience in waterflooded fields is highly attractive
Strong computer skills with intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel
PVT, SCAL, reservoir characterization, miscible flooding and/or WAG experience are considered assets
Ability to work in a multidisciplinary integrated team environment
Well-developed critical and strategic thinking skills (ability to apply logic and challenge assumptions, conclusions and make appropriate recommendations)
You hold yourself and others accountable, and expect others to do the same
Work accuracy, attention to detail and ability to analyze data is fundamental
You continually seek greater knowledge about the systems, processes and hazards in the workplace, in order to understand not just what you do but why you do it
You constantly ask what could go wrong and check for out-of-the-ordinary conditions and learn to anticipate potential problems
Excellent written and verbal communication, administration and organizational skills
Working Conditions
These positions will be based in St. John’s for a 4 month work term beginning May 2018
Qualified residents of the province of Newfoundland and Labrador will be given first consideration in the staffing of this position
