Husky is currently looking for a Clastics Geologist at their Calgary, AB location.
As a key member of an integrated team of professionals, the Clastics Geologist will provide lithological, sedimentological and sequence stratigraphic interpretations and associated services and expertise to operations, development and exploration teams.
The successful candidate will have had direct exposure to various technical aspects of E&D; projects, including sequence stratigraphic interpretation, mapping, seismic interpretation, reservoir modelling, petrophysics, structural geology, and risk evaluation. The incumbent will also take a committed role in data stewardship within the group and participate in the maintenance of data management standards and guidelines.
You will work with a team of geoscientists and engineers which provides support for our producing fields and field studies, with an emphasis on managing core and rock data, delivering high quality sedimentological interpretations and ensuring proper representation of the sequence stratigraphic frameworks in geologic models. You will work in cross-disciplinary teams and your activities may include participation in project reviews.
Specific responsibilities will include:
Providing subject matter expertise for a variety of play types and projects, both in Western Canada and offshore areas.
Clastic core descriptions and interpretations using an integrated sedimentological / ichnological approach.
Integration with petrophysics, petrographic and core analyses and data.
Field-scale sequence stratigraphic interpretations.
Tectonostratigraphic interpretations, timelines and models.
Designing and delivering in-house clastic courses, core workshops and field courses across a range of clastic sedimentary environments.
Coaching and mentoring of both new and experienced professionals.
Identifying opportunities for development, adding value through the innovative application of new technologies.
Communicating the results of technical analyses to internal staff and management as well as external partners.
Maintaining and enhancing personal professional development through evaluation of the latest technological trends, advancements and innovations in reservoir description and management, and through technical reading, webinars and courses.
Travelling to various sites to provide training and expertise, both within Canada and internationally.
Our ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:
M.Sc. or Ph.D. in clastic sedimentology / sequence stratigraphy, preferably involving field- and/or core-based research. Additional field-based experience would be an asset.
Be a member in good standing with Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA).
Minimum 10-12 years of oil and gas industry experience as a geologist.
Extensive experience in logging core and doing field work including the production of measured sections.
Current competency in industry-standard core description, geological mapping and modeling packages; ideally some expertise with Prizm.
Expertise in the evaluation and interpretation of image logs, including both sedimentary feature dip data and fracture data.
Demonstrated ability to think regionally and to generate exploration-scale depositional and sequence stratigraphic frameworks.
Strong communication skills are required, as is the ability to work collaboratively with co-workers in Subsurface teams, and external organizations such as service companies and regulatory bodies.
Proven ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
Capability in a mentoring and/or coaching role.
Superior analytical skills and the ability to identify key issues based on relevant data and provide appropriate solutions/recommendations.
Excellent presentation as well as written and oral communication skills.
Ability to problem-solve and to work independently to develop solutions.
The following qualifications and competencies would be considered assets:
Offshore East Coast and International experience.
Possess a strong ability to understand and appreciate the potential of underdeveloped assets.
