Description

London:
BP Launchpad is our new way of scaling innovation to tackle the dual challenge. We take great ideas generated from within our internal and external ecosystem and deploy them fast.

Our first technology is focused on breakthrough subsurface analytics, using fibre optics.

Over the past few years, a small R&D; team has been designing and deploying game-changing algorithms that interpret data captured from fibre optic cables deep in the subsurface into actionable information. The results of these algorithms are now being used to increase production and make our wells even safer - adding millions of barrels of oil each year in Azerbaijan.

These advances have prompted BP to make fibre optics sensing a global design standard for all our wells, as part of our ambition to become the leading upstream digital company. Now we are scaling up a new unit to deploy the technology globally – and build the next wave of applications. This unit is set up differently from most in BP – located in its own separate offices, liberated from some of the corporate ways of working - to accelerate and supercharge development and deployment. Run like a start-up, but with the financial backing of BP – and its global customer base.

Joining the team now provides an opportunity to shape a breakthrough technology agenda and to deliver truly global impact, within a start-up environment.
Key accountabilities:
Our market-ready, app-based technology allows teams to listen to wells and reservoir activities via fibre optic cables. This means they can effectively manage production risks and increase reservoir recovery.
