POSITION SUMMARY:
Marathon is currently seeking an experienced Drilling Engineer in the Oklahoma City, Oklahoma office for the Mid-Continent Asset Team.- The successful candidate will design, plan and execute the safe, efficient and cost effective drilling operation for wells. Also responsible for working closely with a multidisciplinary team of professionals to arrive at the most feasible and cost effective well designs for execution in a rapidly growing fast paced asset with 3-4 rig lines assigned.
 
 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
 
 

Has the right and obligation to stop work if unsafe conditions exist or are suspected. Ensure that all operations are planned and carried out in accordance with safe operational procedures and good drilling practices.
Keep the Drilling Engineering Manager informed of progress and incidents. Consults on higher risk/complex problems and projects.
Liaise with Drilling Superintendents on program preparation, execution, and performance analysis, trouble-shooting and forward planning.
Planning and delivering detailed drilling engineering programs that adhered to, comply with all policies, procedures and regulations.
Proficient in Drilling Engineering Design. Capable of planning complex directional wells, evaluate and challenge casing and cement designs.
Support investigations and follow-up on accidents and incidents arising from well site operations.
Support and advocate open, honest and respectful communications and continuous improvement. Promote/support a culture of involvement and participation by all parties concerned.
Identify opportunities for better application of drilling technology and methodology to optimize operations and/or decrease drilling costs and timing efficiencies.
Work closely with and support multi-disciplinary teams of professionals (HSE, Completions, Subsurface, Facilities, Production, Supply Chain, Land, Regulatory, etc.) in planning and execution drilling projects.
Ensure that all permits are obtained prior to commencing any well operations.
Budgeting and tracking time and cost, plus key performance indicators ("KPI's"), for drilling projects.
Capture and implement lessons learned.
The person in this role will be expected to spend 80% of his work time in the Office and 20% in the Field.

Required Qualifications:
 
 

Must be legally authorized to work in the US for any US employer.
Bachelor-s degree or higher in Engineering.
Minimum of 5 years of drilling engineering experience of operations in various environments.
Experience in US Land Resource Plays.

Preferred Qualifications:
 
 

2+ years of Drilling experience in the Oklahoma Resource Basin (SCOOP & STACK).
8+ years of Drilling experience.
1+ years of field based drilling experience.
Strong knowledge of applicable software is preferred (e.g. Wellview; Compass; StressCheck; MS Office Suite; Spotfire; etc.).
